
A graduate of the University of Illinois College of Law, Ruth E. Wyman has practiced law in east-central Illinois for more than 18 years. Ruth’s work has included representation of criminal defense clients (successfully trying numerous felony and misdemeanor cases in front of juries), and has successfully represented clients in other cases including traffic, order of protection, DCFS appeals, landlord-tenant, family law cases and civil appeals.
Ruth practices frequently in Champaign, Coles, Douglas, Edgar, Ford, and Piatt Counties, and has successfully represented clients and argued cases on appeal in the Fourth District (Illinois) Appellate Court in Springfield as well as the Illinois Supreme Court.
Ruth has received awards from the National Trial Lawyers Association, American Institute of Criminal Law Attorneys, People’s Choice Award (Best Law Firm), East Central Illinois Women Attorneys Association (ECIWAA), Champaign-Urbana Area Projects (CUAP), and Champaign County Health Care Consumers.
Ruth is fluent in Spanish and started a free legal clinic for immigrants, which she continues to volunteer for.
Ruth is a board member of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Champaign County Steering Committee, the Champaign-Urbana Tenant Union, and previously served as president of the Urbana Free Library Foundation.
Ruth is also a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, the Appellate Lawyers Association, and the Champaign County Bar Association.
